چکیده

This article presents a mechanism to infer mood states, aiming to provide virtual learning environments (VLEs) with a tool able to recognize the student’s motivation. The inference model has as its parameters personality traits, motivational factors obtained through behavioral standards and the affective subjectivity identified in texts made available in the communication functionalities of the VLE. In the inference machine, such variables are treated under probability reasoning, more precisely by

In Search of the Affective Subject Interacting in the ROODA Virtual Learning Environment

This paper examines elements from Piaget’s and Scherer’s theories that are able to offer subsidies for the specification of the affective aspects involved in Virtual Learning Environments (VLE). The affective dimension is characterized by the moods manifested during interactions in virtual space by affective portion of psychological subject. To figure moods out is a way to personalize the pedag...

The Prediction of Forming Limit Diagram of Low Carbon Steel Sheets Using Adaptive Fuzzy Inference System Identifier

The paper deals with devising the combination of fuzzy inference systems (FIS) and neural networks called the adaptive network fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to determine the forming limit diagram (FLD). In this paper, FLDs are determined experimentally for two grades of low carbon steel sheets using out-of-plane (dome) formability test. The effect of different parameters such as work hardening...

Making a Case for Machine Perception of Trainee Affect to Aid Learning and Performance in Embedded Virtual Simulations

For our purposes, machine perception is defined as the ability of a computer-based training system to sense the behavior and affective state (e.g. mood or emotions) of trainees and interpret whether they are engaged, bored, frustrated, confused or even hostile during the training process. This paper puts forward the notion that the maturation of machine perception of trainee affect is criticall...

Emotional agents for collaborative e-learning

Revised: September 30th, 2007 ABSTRACT. In this paper, we discuss the social intelligence that renders affective behaviours of intelligent agents, and its application to a collaborative learning system. We argue that socially appropriate affective behaviours would provide a new dimension for collaborative learning systems. The description of a system to recognize the six universal facial expres...

The Effects of Positive and Negative Mood on Cognition and Motivation in Multimedia Learning Environment

The Cognitive-Affective Theory of Learning with Media framework posits that the multimedia learning process is mediated by the learner’s mood. Recent studies have shown that positive mood has a facilitating effect on multimedia learning. Though literature has shown that negative mood encourages an individual to engage in a more systematic, elaborate, and analytical cognitive processing, this ef...
